The countdown is over

6 August, 2014

I’m on my way! The adventure has begun 😃

Thanks to chauffeur Suzannah, I arrived at the airport budget hotel late afternoon, closer than home for checking in by 5.45 am. Not good for a not-morning person. Hopefully, being in business class to NYC, I might get a bit of sleep. Maybe.

Not that I’m a frequent flyer, far from it. But I am a frequent shopper, with my credit card linked to a frequent flyer programme. After NYC the luxury runs out – cattle class all the way after that!

Two weeks to go

23 July, 2014

The night of 6 August I’ll be staying the night at Tullamarine (at one of the cheaper hotels!), in anticipation of an early start to my trip the next morning. Still so much to do but, finally, the paperwork is done  ðŸ˜ƒ

The necessary ... even in this electronic age,
sometimes you just have to have paper.

It’s starting to get serious

5 July, 2014

Now to plan “The Trip” in earnest!
Thursday was my last day at work – a lovely morning tea with the library team; many, many good wishes from colleagues across the health sector; dinner with family.
Farewell morning tea in the library office
Yesterday was transition day – totally lazy then dinner with friends.
Today – the first day of the rest of my life, starting with ….. the dentist and pre-trip check-up. Doom and gloom! But what? Root canal, extraction?? The dentist will confer with a colleague about what the xray really says but either way it’s “a ticking time bomb”. Yikes!
So before the return visit, time for more eating with family brunch tomorrow; dinner with friends on Monday; a meeting with nibbles on Tuesday evening; lunch with a friend on Wednesday …… All interspersed with “Planning”!!

A trip in the offing

One more adventure – The Last Hurrah Tour 2014

19 March 2014
Retirement looms! I have one last adventure planned before settling into a life of genteel poverty as an Old Age Pensioner 😃 … The Last Hurrah Tour 2014. Just about everything is booked. First purchase was travel insurance, not a bad investment given the state of Qantas and how things are looking across the Black Sea from Turkey. They’ll be fine …. I’ll keep believing until proved wrong! Lots more reading and planning to do before August. I am very lucky – even if not wildly financially prudent!!

Last Hurrah Tour 2014

Is Barcelona, is Gaudi – Sagrada Familia (pt.1)

Gaudi is the reason I included Barcelona in the itinerary of my Last Hurrah trip. I’ve loved his work for as long as I can remember. My fi...
